Okay. I saw an ad for "Kung Fu" the other day, and it got me wondering whether my favourite martial arts game and my favourite western game would work together. Although minor deviations occur from the history of the Feng Shui in Deadlands, the true point of divergence is in 1863. I tend to assume that Raven was killed in the mainline Feng Shui world. But what if someone - probably a demon of some sort - got loose in the 1850 juncture, found him, and made sure that he lived? Can you say "Critical Shift", boys and girls? I knew you could. The world is drastically changed - even the dates of the Junctures move. Juncture by juncture, it breaks down like this :
The 82 (69) Juncture No change, except that noted above.
The 1863 (1850) Juncture - The Deadlands The setting of Deadlands falls in between the junctures listed. If the GM wishes, the 1850 juncture can shift to 1863, or another juncture can open up at this point. In this juncture, Raven and his allies are opening up huge numbers of feng shui sites, and letting magic wash across the world. The Ascended are reverting to their animal forms, and either becoming corrupted or getting killed. A lot of Feng Shui sites are becoming uncontested, especially in America, as the agents of the Reckoners hunt down and kill those who have the knowledge to utilise the sites against them. And from where in the Netherworld does the mysterious Ghost-Rock originate?
The 2009 (1996) Juncture The world as we know it is unrecognizable. The creatures that came from the Deadlands have won, and over-run lots of territory. Ironically, this paved the way for a Guiding Hand led state in Asia (covering all of China, Japan and a lot of south east Asia). The Guiding Hand holds its borders, but does not fight back. Resistance to the horrors comes cheifly from those few islands that humanity still holds onto - Iceland, New Zealand, and a scattering of smaller islands around the world. For sorcery and technology modifiers, assume that modern Hong Kong's peculiar nature envelops the whole world.
The 2069 (2056) Juncture A golden age was innaugrated with humanity's triumph over the horrors in 2024. The world is still rebuilding, but placing far more faith in technology this time around, although the technology in question is more steampunk than anything else. An army of powered armour soldier out-fitted by the mad scientists of the Deadlands setting is staging a continent spanning war across Eurasia against the Guiding Hand. Meanwhile, the Eaters of the Lotus have emerged once more, seeking to undo the hard won victory. |
